Abstract

|
A 56 year old male whose small bowel was removed except for duodenum and 25 cm of proximal jejunum because of strangulated intestinal obstruction is reported. Ileocecal valve was also resected and end-to-side jejuno-transverse colostomy was performed.
The presen study describes the wide-spread nutritional and metabolic sequelae after massive small intestinal resection, including weight loss, anemia, number of defecation. and abnormal absorption of carbohy-drate, fat, protein and minerals.
